As a child I began sewing with my Grandmother and Mother. This began a lifelong love of fabrics. Two of my most popular designs are the simple and classic silk scarf and the versatile ruana wrap. For the past several years I’ve been working in the ancient Oriental techniques of shibori, which involves wrapping, stitching and pleating fabric in certain and specific ways before hand dyeing it. I also use block printing and discharge methods with my fiber pieces. Most recently I have added knitted works to my wearable art line. Scarves and shawls, along with handbags, are becoming favorites. I am enjoying using knitted pieces as embellishments to my silk and rayon work as well.

Hand-formed bead necklaces and earrings have been part of my art for over ten years. Working with hand tooled metal and integrating different metals and stones with my clay jewelry has brought a new dimension to this work in recent years.

The southwestern United States has had a significant impact on my composition and design work. The rich and glorious palate of the landscape and open sky of New Mexico have been particularly inspiring. I hope that people who view and wear my work will sense the Navajo advice that I incorporate in all of my pieces - “Walk in the Beauty Way.”
